Gamers have been waiting restlessly for Rockstar to announce a new game for 2016. Earlier this year, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke with MCV UK and hinted that the gaming studio would be at E3 2016 "in a big way," leading many, including us, to speculate that a new Red Dead sequel is coming soon. Sadly, many fans were disappointed when the only game that Take-Two promoted at E3 was 2K Games' Mafia 3.

Gamescom, Europe's biggest annual video game trade fair, returns this week at Cologne, Germany. With every major player in the gaming industry and more than 300,000 visitors in attendance, rumors of a major Rockstar announcement surface once again. Is Gamescom the stage for Rockstar to reveal its latest game title?

Via GTA 5 YouTuber and tipster MrBossFTW, a tweet from PlayStation insider @Tidux suggests an announcement from Rockstar could arrive shortly.

The message from Tidux is short and succinct – the unreasonably long word Rockstar is replaced with a rock guitar, a star emoji, and is accompanied with a hashtag #PSM. Sony confirmed that the PlayStation Meeting will be held on Sept. 7, where we expect the Japanese electronics company to finally introduce its highly anticipated PlayStation 4 "NEO" console. Now, if what Tidux is hinting is true, it looks like Rockstar will be involved in the meetings as well. Renowned GTA 5 tipster Yan2295 said the following:

Even if reports of Rockstar at the PlayStation Meeting turned out to be true, it could mean nothing. And even if it does mean something, a teaser at Gamescom is not guaranteed either. That being said, we can't help but expect something, anything, from Rockstar soon. If the gaming studio does not make an announcement this year, then it will break its string of consecutive yearly releases over more than a decade.

Stay tuned as we learn more about the upcoming PlayStation Meeting and the possible Rockstar announcement in the days ahead.
