Rainbow Six Siege Mexico Major just concluded its final playday of groups and only the top two teams from each group made it to the playoffs.

Group A

BDS Esport vs. CYCLOPS Athlete Gaming

This match was played on Kafe Dostoyevsky, which is a defender-sided map. CAG banned Zofia on attack to prevent the enemies from clearing utility on-site. BDS played really slow and methodically on attack to counter CAG’s aggressive roam strategies. CAG made many mistakes as they were trying to do individual plays.

BDS won four rounds on attack and the first half with a 4-2 scoreline. After the side switch, CAG was able to win rounds by catching BDS off-guard. CAG always isolated one player and then converged on that single player. Then with the player count advantage, CAG would execute into the site and win the round. The match went all the way to overtime, but after that, BDS swiftly won both the final rounds and the game with an 8-6 scoreline.

This match victory for BDS secured their spot in the playoffs. On the other hand, CAG would need one more win to qualify for the playoffs.

Team oNe vs. CYCLOPS Athlete Gaming

This match was played on Consulate, and was important for both teams. If Team oNe wins the match, they would take CAG to a final tie-breaker match. On the other hand, CAG only requires three rounds to qualify for the playoffs. Team oNe started strong on defense and won four rounds, which got them to a 4-2 split. After the side switch, CAG only needed one more round to move forward.

However, oNe didn’t give CAG any breathing room and won the game without dropping a single round in the second half. Team oNe won the map with a 7-2 scoreline, which forced these two teams to play one final match. The tie-breaker match was played on Chalet, and Team oNe beat CAG with a 7-4 scoreline. This victory for oNe made them the second team to qualify from Group A.

Group B

Spacestation Gaming and FURIA Esports qualified for the playoffs without much of a competition. This was because Knights were not able to attend the Major due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, and Natus Vincere was unable to win a single match in groups.
