Can the 'Power Rangers' have more than one movie? Lionsgate

Lionsgate’s attempt to bring the Power Rangers back to the big screen won’t appear until March 2017 but Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer is already confident that Power Rangers will become a multi-film franchise.

Variety reported on Feltheimer’s aspirations during a conference call with analysts on Thursday.

“We are really, really excited about the Power Rangers movie,” Feltheimer said. “We could see doing five or six or seven.”

Feltheimer cites the reveal of the Power Rangers costumes and the positive reaction to them as his basis for trying to make Power Rangers into a movie franchise. And who can blame him; it seems like a no-brainer, with other beloved properties being turned into multi-film blockbusters. Still, with the debut of the first film a little less than a year away, it may be too soon to talk more Power Rangers movies.

Power Rangers will be directed by Dean Israelite and has cast five young actors to star as our Rangers. Becky G is the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin is the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott is the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery is the Red Ranger and RJ Cyler will play the Blue Ranger.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was the casting of Elizabeth Banks as the evil alien witch Rita Repulsa, whose look has spawned plenty of reaction and fan theories.

There’s also a Power Rangers rumor that describes the opening scene of the film, which could very well happen.

So what do you think of the Power Rangers becoming a franchise? Too soon? Let us know in the comments section below.
