Last month, 2K presented Park After Dark for NBA 2K17 . The special addition to MyPark mode was created in order to add a different dimension and create interest to the streetball mode. It was also assumed that the addition of guest DJ’s such as Snoop Dogg would garner interest in Park After Dark. There was one problem however … the first edition of Park After Dark just was not good.

On Nov. 26, the first Park After Dark with Snoop Dogg occurred to mixed reviews from fans. The biggest complaints of the mode was players not being able to join games for extended periods of time and lagging that made games unplayable. Even after the shaky start, 2K announced that the second Park After Dark will take place on Dec. 30 with Future being announced as the guest DJ for that night. The same extras will be included inside Park After Dark including mini-games such as 3-point Shoot-Outs and Dunk Show-off challenges.

With two months to look at what went wrong in its debut, it’s apparent that 2K just did not have the servers needed for this ambitious mode’s popular launch.. 2K wanted to draw people into the park, and when they got their wish, they were not ready for it. Bright neon lights and catchy music is great but if you are literally standing on the sideline just waiting for a game for an hour, even the best Snoop Dogg song does not help your mood. But more problems could arise from the upcoming Park After Dark according to Pasta Padre.

“Unlike the last Park After Dark this one appears to be scheduled to take place live across the country at the same time. The first event was locked to specific regions with the west coast only getting their opportunity to play after the live session had already ended on the east coast. However this one is set to begin at 11ET/8PT. Server issues could then potentially be even worse.”
