Most Hated ‘Game of Thrones’ Character Cast As Maximus In Marvel’s ‘Inhumans’

Ramsay Bolton, a genuine sociopath and complete dick, is probably one of the most hated Game of Thrones characters, aside from King Joffrey. Both characters have since gotten what they deserve, but it won’t be the last time we see Iwan Rheon in a dangerous, complicated role. The actor, who got his first start on Misfits, has been cast in a lead role in Marvel’s The Inhumans. He’ll portray Maximus, the brother of the King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt.

Though Maximus isn’t a villain per se (yet), he does want the throne for himself, which could make quite the inside antagonist for Black Bolt. He doesn’t go by the name Maximus the Mad just because. He’s a supervillain in the comics and described as “fiercely devoted” to his family and the inhuman characters in the show. Maximus is a master of deception, aided by his mind control abilities, which are often hampered by his mental instability. His psychic powers give him quite a dangerous way with words on top of his already genius-level intellect. Seems like a good fit for Rheon.

"Iwan's ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board," Marvel TV head Loeb said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent," added Executive Producer Scott Buck.

The Inhumans is expected to arrive in IMAX theaters on Labor Day (Sept. 4), and premiere on ABC later that month. Check out the descriptions of the rest of the cast here.
