Last month, the Chicago Cubs won their first World Series championship since 1908. “The Curse” that Cub fans lived through for over a century finally ended when they defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games and now, MLB The Show 16 are paying tribute to the World Champs in the game.
In MLB The Show 16’s Diamond Dynasty mode, Sony released a Champions Pack for players. These packs include four player cards as well as a chance to find three flashback cards of former Cub players. The Chicago Cubs flashback players are as follows:
- Rookie Flashback Andrew Cashner (RP)
- Prime Flashback Marlon Byrd (CF)
- Prime Flashback Darwin Barney (2B)
In addition to the Champions Pack, Champions Missions give players the opportunity to receive even more rewards. Under the Statistical tab in Diamond Dynasty, players have the opportunity to receive a fourth Cub flashback player in addition to the three formerly mentioned players. Here’s how you can get a Matt Garza player card:
- Acquire the three new Cubs flashbacks (Cashner, Byrd and Barney)
- Complete Statistical Missions for each Flashback
- Marlon Byrd: Tally 5 hits
- Darwin Barney: Tally 10 fielding assists
- Andrew Cashner: 10 strikeouts
- Redeem Prime Matt Garza, plus XP and Stubs
Now, some may argue the players that were selected for these packs are not exactly the best past Cubs they could have selected. Darwin Barney and Matt Garza over Kerry Wood, Mark Prior? Besides older Cubs like Ernie Banks, Ron Santo or Ryne Sandberg, the list of Cubs that could have been included is somewhat small so let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth and just take what is being offered.
The Chicago Cubs tribute comes just a week after MLB The Show 16 released a World Series MVP Mission. As a way to celebrate different MVP’s of the Fall Classic over the years, Sony put together a group of cards for players to earn in order to get the ultimate prize in the group – Philadelphia Phillies legendary third baseman Mike Schmidt.
