There’s been murmurs and rumors about a possible Mini Super Nintendo console being released after the success of the Mini NES, and now a new report confirms this new miniature home console is in the works.

According to Eurogamer, who spoke to a source close to the company, Nintendo is indeed working on a Mini SNES and is trying to get it out by Christmas time this year.

While few details outside of a possible release date window were given, the reported Mini SNES console should make gamers of all ages very excited. While the Mini NES was a great introduction to some of the games that helped Nintendo launch its first home console, the SNES had a vastly superior software lineup.

Some of the best games ever came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, including The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid, not to mention classics like Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World and many more.

The Mini NES came with 30 games, but hopefully Nintendo packs even more titles into the Mini SNES because it’s hard to weed out that rich library.

However, Nintendo will need to do a better job of anticipating demand for this reported console as shortages of the Mini NES were rampant during the past holiday season. And it’s not crazy to anticipate that the Mini SNES will be in even higher demand.

When Nintendo announced it was discontinuing the Mini NES, they stated that it was never meant to be a permanent fixture of their gaming lineup, so it’s likely the Mini SNES will see the same short shelf life.

So what do you think of this reported Mini SNES? What games do you hope will land on the next mini console? Sound off in the comments section below.
