Publisher Square Enix has just announced that their upcoming action-adventure superhero title Marvel’s Avengers will launch for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Originally, it was just announced for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. The current-gen launch is slated to release on September 4.

Good news for the players who want to experience the superhero title on its launch date and are also planning to buy the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5: Players who own the current-gen version will get an upgraded copy for new consoles (whether it’s for the PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X) and save data will carry over. Cross-gen play will also allow play between current and next-generation consoles for those who don’t want to upgrade, but are still looking forward to playing with their friends who are on the same console brand.

As for the expected improvements for Marvel’s Avengers that will come with its next-generation console launch, only PlayStation 5 has unveiled what to expect so far. The PlayStation 5 version will feature “extremely fast load times, boosted resolution and fidelity, improved texturing and armor destruction, ray tracing, and more.” This "more" includes lightning speed loading times with its solid state drive, Dual Sense wireless controller haptics, and spatial 3D audio. Players will also have the option to choose between looks and performance with the “Enhanced Graphics Mode” and “High Frame Rate Mode”. More details can be found in a PlayStation blog post here.

As for the Xbox Series X, Stadia, and PC specific features, these should be announced at a later date. So far, Marvel’s Avengers has been added to the list of Xbox Series X’s Smart Delivery feature and joins a wide array of AAA titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 (delayed to November 17), Halo Infinite, DiRT 5, Scarlet Nexus, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the program.

Square Enix will unveil more news regarding Marvel’s Avengers during its “War Table” live stream on June 24 at 1:00 PM EST, which can be watched on YouTube. Marvel’s Avengers will launch on September 4 for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.
