The developer and publisher of the Professor Layton series of puzzle video games, Level-5, has just announced that its most recent installment for the franchise, Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy will be coming soon to the west for the Nintendo Switch.
The Professor Layton series revolves around Professor Hershel Layton, a mild-mannered archeologist and professor at the fictional Gressenheller University. Along his travels, he solves puzzles and investigates mysteries with his trusty apprentice, Luke Triton, the series’ comic relief to Professor Layton’s straight man. The successful point-and-click detective adventure game spawned a successful franchise that involved multiple prequels, manga and novel adaptations, and versions for both the cinema and the small screen.
Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy is actually the first time in the series that the esteemed professor isn’t the focus of the story. His daughter Katrielle takes center stage, as her father goes missing and it is up to her to find him. Throughout her quest, Katrielle will have the help of Ernest Greeves, an earnest assistant to Katrielle and Sherl, a talking dog. In the city of London, they’ll attempt to locate Professor Layton, and also solve a few more mysteries along the way.
Originally released in 2017, Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy is available on Nintendo 3DS, iOS and Android. In August 9, 2018, it saw a release for the Nintendo Switch, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you probably wouldn’t have been able to enjoy it.
Now that it is to be released for the western market, there will be notable improvements from its Nintendo 3DS version. Firstly, the graphics have received a substantial upgrade from its previous Nintendo platform. This is also counted as a Deluxe update, so it will include 40 new puzzles as well as improved ones from its 3DS version. 50 new outfits have also been added that can be earned through gameplay, but all in all, its main calling card is the ability to be played on TV through the Switch.
Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy will launch in Europe and North America on November 8, 2019.
