Level-5 announced during the Level-5 Vision 2016 event -- via Gematsu -- that its next installment of the Professor Layton series will be Lady Layton: The Conspiracy of King Millionaire Ariadne.

The game, with the very long title, is set to release in Japan for Nintendo 3DS, iOS and Android in Spring 2017. A trailer was also released (thanks to Nintendo Everything) showing off some of the story and puzzles fans can expect.

According to Gematsu, the story will follow Catriel Layton, the daughter of Professor Hershel Layton. Catriel is a “jack-of-all-trades, mystery-solving detective” who solves the strange incidents happening in London. From looking for someone’s pet cat to exposing the criminal in a murder case, she’ll take on any job.

Catriel’s bizarre ideas for solving cases boost her reputation in London, and she’s starting to receive various cases. She originally started working as a detective to find her father, who suddenly disappeared, but she continues to work to solve a variety of mysteries in town. However, solving new requests each day has stalled her initial search for her father. Lady Layton’s assistant will be the talking dog, Sharo.

Fans last saw Professor Layton in Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney back in 2014.

In June, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino hinted that the puzzle franchise would return for a new mainline game, but the lead character himself would be taking a break for some new stars when the series returned and that new lead character is Lady Layton.
