As announced by publisher Double Fine and developer Foam Sword, the hand-painted and quirky action adventure game Knights and Bikes finally revealed its release date for August 27. Knights and Bikes will release for PlayStation 4 and PC. The title was initially funded on Kickstarter back in 2016, and after a few years in development it has now finally gone gold, according to a tweet from Foam Sword. Going gold means that initial development has finally finished. Check out the tweet below, along with a short clip which highlights the game’s release date.

Knights and Bikes is primarily made for co-operative players, and is set on a British island in the 1980s. The artistic action adventure game lets you and a partner play as Nessa and Demelza, two kids in a coming-of-age story as they explore the coasts of Penfurzy on their trusty bikes in search of a legendary lost treasure in a tale filled with excitement, danger, fun, and friendship. If you’ve ever seen The Goonies, then consider that to be the closest inspiration for Knights and Bikes. Check out a trailer for it below.

Nessa and Demelza will be accompanied by a band of very unlikely companions, including a pet goose and a pickled head of an undead knight. Together they form the Penfurzy Rebel Bicycle Club, pedaling into danger to face threats head on with an array of "weapons" including frisbees, water-balloons, video game controllers, and the powerful beats of an amplified boom-box.

Of course, what is an adventure without some epic loot? Knights and Bikes has it in spades as the duo get trinkets to exchange for upgrades to their bikes. The ensuing journey takes them to the island’s country lanes, windswept beaches, deep forests, modern attractions, and ancient ruins.

If the art design looks familiar to you, then you should know that Foam Sword is headed by two creative people from the artsy title LittleBigPlanet – Rex Crowle, who worked on the art design, and Moo You, who is responsible for programming the gameplay. Knights and Bikes also managed to snag a well-known Hollywood composer for its score, Daniel Pemberton, who is best known for Steve Jobs and The Man From UNCLE.

Knights and Bikes will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam on August 27.
