Another member of Netflix’s Iron Fist series has been confirmed. According to Marvel’s press release , Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will play Iron Fist’s strong ally, Colleen Wing. Henwick joins fellow Game of Thrones star Finn Jones as Danny Rand, and Shang-Chi, whose actor hasn’t yet been revealed.

Colleen Wing is a close friend of both Misty Knight and Iron Fist. Interestingly enough, Knight will appear in the upcoming Luke Cage Netflix series due September 30. Wing is a skilled investigator and martial arts expert, but has no superhuman abilities. She’ll be the female lead in Iron Fist and is described as "an invaluable ally to Iron Fist as he returns to his life in New York."

The Iron Fist series will take place when Danny Rand returns to New York City after years off the grid. In the comics, Wing’s father, Professor Lee Wing, sends his daughter Colleen to meet Danny Rand and they quickly become friends.

Marvel’s official synopsis:

Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Earlier this month, The Hashtag Show also revealed Shang-Chi will join the Iron Fist cast, but no actor has been confirmed. Known as one of the best martial artists in the MCU, Shang-Chi is able to dodge machine gun bullets and deflect sniper shots. His father, Fu ‘Han’ Manchu, was a criminal mastermind and talented martial artist. Once Shang-Chi realized the extent of his father’s evil, he turned on him. Shang-Chi has worked as a British Intelligence MI6 agent, is an Avenger, and fits in the Shadowland Arc shared by Daredevil. He also has affiliations with Heroes For Hire alongside Danny Rand, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing.

It has taken Netflix a while to get Iron Fist off the ground. Marvel reportedly had trouble deciding on a vision for Iron Fist that carried through to The Defenders, but Iron Fist is by far the most traditional superhero-like character that will be part of the team. Danny Rand can heal himself, has telepathy and harnesses his chi into his iconic ‘Iron Fist,’ giving it a glowing supernatural energy.

Netflix has not set a premiere date. Iron Fist will be the final series before Netflix takes on The Defenders where Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are all expected to join forces.
