It’s no secret Apple is waiting until 2017 to fully refresh the iPhone’s design. The iPhone 7, expected in the fall, will look all too similar to the iPhone 6s. It won’t be until the iPhone 8 releases that we’ll get the switch to OLED, and with it may come a new vibrational system that’s capable of creating “more complex tactile vibrations on the display.”
According to Nikkei (via Apple Insider ), Apple will give the iPhone 8’s ‘Taptic Engine’ a serious upgrade. Currently used in both the Apple Watch and the iPhone 6s, the small motor “lets devices produce different, subtle responses to user actions and notifications.” It’s unclear what new features this change will bring.
The only major design adjustment for the iPhone 7 is the loss of 3.5 mm headphone jack, which will likely be replaced by w ireless or hybrid EarPods . A second speaker vent will take up the space that previously housed the headphone jack . Schematics for the 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch iPhone 7 show the camera won’t be flush with the casting. The highly anticipated dual-lens camera will be exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus. For both versions, the body is rumored to be entirely dust- and water-resistant, have redesigned antenna lines, a smart connector, an A10 processor, 3GB RAM and upgraded LTE chips. According to reports , Apple’s supply chain has already started gearing up for production.
Multiple statements from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo corroborate the latest report that we’ll have to wait until the iPhone 8 releases for a complete design overhaul, such as the wraparound screen with ‘virtual buttons’ and other interesting drawings in Apple’s arsenal of patents .
