Back in April, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted iPhone sales may drop as much as 18 percent in 2016. Now, a new report from research firm GfK shared the sales figures for the first week of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. According to GfK, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch weekend sales saw a staggering 25 percent drop year-over-year.

The drop in sales is not a complete surprise – DigiTimes reported on Friday that analog chip suppliers already estimate estimate chip orders for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will fall approximately 20 percent during Q1 2017. In fact, Apple reportedly requested manufacturing partners to carry chips for 50 million units of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus for Q3 2016, while only 45 million units for Q4. Analog chip suppliers estimate just 37 million units for Q1 2017.

Still, Apple aims to manufacture 100 million iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices for 2016, which is well above the suppliers' prediction of 80-85 million units. Time will tell whether the iPhone 7 will be a sales success.
