Apple’s latest iOS 10.2 software has long been projected for a December release date. An official Apple web page indicates the new OS version will roll out sometime next week. The page, translated from Chinese, discusses Apple’s plans to address battery performance and the shutdown bug in iOS 10.2.

The new iOS 10.2 software is expected to include new wallpapers, new emoji, a new Apple TV app and Apple’s SOS feature, among many others. Developers have been testing out iOS 10.2 software for several weeks. On Monday, Apple released its iOS 10.2 beta 6 software, which will likely be the final beta update before the official rollout.

As said, iOS 10.2 is expected to include fixes for the battery drain and spontaneous shutdown issues found devices running iOS 10.1.1, particularly the iPhone 6s. Some users have been updating to the iOS 10.2 beta software in efforts to remedy the issue.

Users have found handsets will lose over 50 percent battery power in just a few minutes and will shut down at between 20 and 30 percent battery power. The issue has most frequently been found in iPhone 6s handsets manufactured between September and October 2015; however, Apple has now begun to address the issue expanding beyond those models.

Apple currently has in place a battery replacement program for affected iPhone 6s models. There is no word on whether the replacement program will have to be expanded to other affected iPhone models. The upcoming iOS 10.2 software may include a diagnostic tool to help users figure out whether their handset has battery issues.
