Prepare for a new adventure. Heart Machine

Hyper Light Breaker has been confirmed in 2023. This is a sequel to the action RPG Hyper Light Drifter released in 2016. While this upcoming game does continue the story of the previous title, it's going to shift from 2D to 3D.

For this new game, not much has been revealed so far except that the adventure takes place in a new land known as Overgrowth. Players can go on the adventure solo or with friends and explore the massive biomes, create new builds, and beat monsters. Ultimately, the goal is to survive the mysterious Crowns and overthrow the Abyss King.

Features of the game include:

  • A New 3D World to Explore
    • Explore a world in disarray and solve mysteries while fighting vicious enemies, all in full 3D.
    • A vast and ever-changing world awaits with massive, open biomes and deep labyrinths.
    • Use wall-dashing, hoverboard, glider, and more to experience incredible freedom across landscapes
  • Lead the Breakers
    • Play single-player or lead a team of Breakers through the Overgrowth in online co-op play.

    • Discover and unlock a wide arsenal of weapons and items to create the perfect build for every run.
    • Learn more about the Overgrowth and the deep storylines hidden within each death and subsequent attempt.
  • Help the Settlement
    • Help the settlement flourish throughout the journey.
    • Accomplishments introduce new colorful characters and permanent upgrades to the hub.
    • Visit settlers between each run and discover their unique, evolving stories.

Meet the Drifter

As mentioned, the game is the sequel to Hyper Light Drifter. In this one, players took on the role of the Drifter, a character with access to technology long forgotten by the inhabitants of the game's world and suffering from an unspecified illness.

That illness isn’t necessarily made up as the story concept was inspired by the heart disease of creator Alx Preston. It’s also said that the game was inspired by Studio Ghibli’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

What are your thoughts on this game? Willing to wait until next year?
