Attention PS4 owners: This is not a drill! Starting today, players can finally change their PSN names! This is a feature that PlayStation gamers have been asking for for years, and Sony finally confirmed the name change option late last year.

How To Change Your PSN Name

Changing your PSN name is easy, and can be done both on a computer or on your PS4. Note: you cannot change your name on a PS3 or PS Vita. To change your PSN name, follow these steps:

PlayStation 4:

Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].

Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].

Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.

Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

Web browser:

Step 1: Sign in to your PlayStation Network account and select PSN Profile in the menu.

Step 2: Select the Edit button that’s next to your Online ID.

Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.

Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

WARNING: Before you go immediately changing your PSN name, it should be known that some PS4 games will not support the name change. Many PS4 games have no issues, but a few will experience issues. Some games have lesser issues, such as not properly displaying your new name. Others have critical issues, including players losing save data or access to in-game currency. A list of games with both minor and critical issues can be found here. Also, all PS3 and PS Vita games do not support the name change.

How much does it cost to change your PSN Name? The first change is free for everyone, so if you have a good new name, go change it right now. If you want to change it again, every change after the first one costs $9.99. If you are a PS+ subscriber, you can change your name again for only $4.99. If you don't like your new name, contact Sony support, and they will revert you to your old name for free.

So what do you think? Are you excited to finally change your PSN name after all these years? Will you take advantage of the first free name change? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
