Publisher Team17 and developer Wonderscope Games will release Hokko Life, the cutesy farming life sim, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on September 27. For the latter, this will be an exit from early access, as Hokko Life has already been on Steam since June 3, 2021. The full release is expected to introduce the full game across consoles, including the features and improvements added to the game in the past year. Check out the console announcement trailer for Hokko Life below.

Hokko Life is a creativity-filled community sim, in the same vein as its clear inspiration, Animal Crossing. Players take on the role of a new villager in a quaint town called Hoko, and their role is to help neighbors settle into town by designing, building, and decorating their homes.

Hokko Life allows players to toil away in an old workshop and creatively think of new materials and items to create. Players can either head to the forest or the abandoned mine to chop wood or dig for resources. These can then be taken back to town to craft materials of varying designs.

Speaking of designs, Hokko Life allows for a surprising level of design freedom, all made possible by a simple yet powerful editor. From here, you can change certain aspects of items’ designs, such as what goes into the backrest of a bench, the bed, chairs, and more. Painting offers even more freedom, as you can easily incorporate your own designs into various things that will be put in the town, from the design wallpaper down to their clothes, no matter how weird or quirky it is.

Like Animal Crossing, Hokko Life leaves the placement of the other villagers’ houses in your care. You can also go inside and customize and decorate their interiors as you please. There is also a ton of other stuff to do, from fishing to bug hunting and farming, and much more. The developers have put up a roadmap of things to come, although, at the time of writing, two goals have not yet been implemented that will most likely make it to the final release: something called Bug Bonanza and Desert Island Distractions.
