Konami and Hideo Kojima may no longer be able to work together to bring a new game from the "Metal Gear" franchise, but there is an upcoming development from the celebrated director that may be the next best thing, "Physint."

It was recently revealed by Kojima that "Physint" is a spiritual successor of "Metal Gear," and it only goes to show that the director still holds it in high regard.

Not only would "Physint" mark the spiritual return of "Metal Gear," but it also gives the director's game development studio, Kojima Productions, a chance to explore new experiences in the gaming world and beyond.

Hideo Kojima: 'Physint' Is 'Metal Gear's' Spiritual Successor

It has been more than a decade since the last "Metal Gear" game that Kojima worked on with Konami, "Metal Gear V: The Phantom Pain," debuted for the PlayStation 4. According to GameRant, after releasing the title, Kojima and Konami went through a public split, and ever since then, Kojima did not go anywhere near the "Metal Gear" franchise.

That being said, Kojima is now back and developing a stealth action game called "Physint," and it is set to be another PlayStation exclusive like the "Metal Gear" and "Death Stranding" franchise. And since "Physint" is set to be another stealth action game that centers on an espionage theme, it will be similar to what "Metal Gear" has introduced to the world.

Kojima also went on to say that "Physint" is "something like Metal Gear," with this upcoming title now being considered as a spiritual successor to the "Metal Gear" franchise. Since Kojima's split from Konami, fans have been bugging him about the return of the "Metal Gear" franchise and a new game to follow "MGV."

Moreover, Kojima ended the possibility of reuniting with Konami for another "Metal Gear" project when he established "Kojima Productions," signaling his shift toward his own game development.

Here's Why Kojima Is Making 'Physint'

In a recent interview with Edge Magazine (via GameRant), Kojima revealed that he has received multiple requests from fans regarding a new project that closely resembles "Metal Gear." Because of the massive demand from fans, this persuaded him to conceptualize a new game, and after exploring different options, he later pitched "Physint" to PlayStation.

That being said, while this game would be similar to "Metal Gear," Kojima noted that they are adding many new elements to the game that still differentiates it from Konami's franchise. First, "Physint" is set to be an "interactive game" said Kojima, and it is also a movie hybrid that will take users to a different experience than what was introduced before.

This "multiplatform" project would also enable Kojima Productions to be available not just in games, but also to other media platforms, according to the director. With this, Kojima also said that this officially begins "phase two" of Kojima Productions elevating to being more than just a game company.
