This week’s Tavern Brawl is an oldie but goodie called “Battle of Tol Barad.” Loosely based off the World Of Warcraft raid of the same name, this Brawl gives you a random spell after playing a minion. The spell is of the same value, but is entirely free. The spells aren’t locked to what class you play, so literally anything is possible.
Say you play a Secretkeeper turn one, you’ll get a zero cost Arcane Shot . It may look like playing higher cost minions is in your best interest, but that’s not what I’ve found through my time tinkering with the brawl. Higher cost spells like Flamestrike and Fireball are amazing when they cost zero mana, but getting exactly what you want isn’t as easy. You are just as likely to get a Lay On Hands as you are Enter The Coliseum .
I’ve had massive luck playing Secret Paladin, as I usually do during these Brawls, but with a slight twist. Instead of filling the deck with strong mid-game minions like Sludge Belcher or Piloted Shredder , I stack a bunch of low cost minions in order to increase my chance of getting some secrets. Shielded Minibot and Haunted Creeper are still around, but I threw in a couple of Reliquary Seekers and even Sir Finley Mrrggrlton for the lulz.
Winning this Tavern Brawl is still mostly luck, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t create the best deck possible. If you want to try something a bit cheesier, I recommend playing this deck. Djinni Of Zephyrs doesn’t get enough love, so why don’t you show that genie what a good time is all about.
