According to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, there’s legit one major Easter egg that fans still haven’t found after two years of searching. Last year, Gunn stuck to his guns in a Facebook Q&A and on Twitter as well:

To this date, no one has found the Easter egg Gunn’s talking about. Today another fan accused Gunn directly of leading fans on: “ "He won't reveal it because it doesn't exist. The ultimate troll,” said the fan.

Gunn replied, “ If there is no Easter egg I will give you a hundred thousand dollars - copy this post - I will consider it a legally binding contract - signed, James Gunn.”

An earlier report erroneously interpreted this as Gunn offering $100,000 to any fan who found the egg, causing Gunn some grief on Twitter:

But the report was swiftly corrected. All’s well that ends well, eh Gunn?

Gunn’s currently working on post-production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and of course, there will be Easter eggs in that as well. Gunn has made no secret of his love for Easter eggs, despite the mild headache they cause the legal department:

"I actually have to clear everything with legal. We put in little things like graffiti on the walls and stuff like that. There's a ton of characters from the comics in this movie, in little tiny roles. But we have to clear everything with legal because once I use their name then I'm screwed in that scene or whatever. We have just tons of reference to Marvel Cosmic throughout the movie. And I'm certain probably the most Marvel comics characters ever in one movie,” Gunn said in a 2014 interview promoting the first movie.

Perhaps by the time the sequel comes out, this final mysterious Easter egg will have been discovered. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 has a release date of May 5, 2017, so we’ll see.

Do you have any idea what Gunn’s mysterious Easter egg might be? Is there any way that $100,000 might be made to see the light of day? Feel free to discuss in our comments section below.
