Rumors of GTA Online getting massive DLC expansions have popped up online Rockstar

GTA Online has surpassed anyone’s wildest expectations, including those at Rockstar. It seems predictions have been so far exceeded, the company is changing directions with DLC plans. Instead of making any major single-player DLC, it looks like Rockstar will add huge updates for GTA Online.

According to a post on GTAForums, user softsecrets has given what could be the roadmap for Rockstar’s GTA Online DLC plans for the next year or more. Like with anything posted online, especially a post with claims this major, take this with a grain of salt.

The post is actually pretty old, dating back to Aug. 13. That being said, one prediction from the post, the Biker DLC, has already been proven true. The post also claims other updates coming before the huge map expansions will include:

  • A “Law and Order” DLC which will allow players to buy police vehicles and complete police free roam missions

  • A “Luxury Living” DLC which will allow players to buy mansions and own exotic pets

  • The “Blaine County and Paleto” DLC will include wild animals online (finally), with players able to buy a hunting license and equipment to complete new hunting challenges

Once those updates have been released, softsecrets claims the GTA Online map expansions will be announced. These expansions are said to cost money, unlike the other free updates already released. The first is said to release next year and will include North Yankton and Liberty City. The second expansion, said to come in Oct. 2018, will include San Fierro and Las Venturas from GTA: San Andreas.

Also included in the North Yankton/Liberty City DLC will be the long-rumored casino in Los Santos. Softsecrets claims pre-ordering the DLC will earn players 1 million bonus chips to play games in the casino, but microtransactions cannot be used to get more chips. I suppose this could be seen as actual gambling, so Rockstar probably cannot include it.

While all that sounds somewhat fishy, the next parts are when the post really stops sounding believable. Softsecrets mentions the paid map expansion DLCs will cost the same price as a full game, so around $60. This seems incredibly high, especially when it’s just GTA Online content. It also means players would need to spend around $180 for the full GTA Online experience, which also seems too pricy for Rockstar to pull off.

The post also mentions another expansion with Vice City is planned, but will not be released “until GTA VI, some time around 2020 at the very earliest.” That seems like pure speculation to me, it’s too far in advance to know.

Before we dismiss this post as complete speculation, softsecrets has posted a few times on GTAForums in the past. A post from 2013 (before GTA V was released on PS3 and Xbox 360) shows softsecrets revealing accurate information about features not implemented into GTA Online until years later. That being said, this first post could also just be guesswork as well.

Again, do not take everything here as fact. Nothing is certain until Rockstar makes an official announcement about it. That being said, some of the ideas presented in the forum post are interesting, and seem like they could be possible. Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see what Rockstar does next to know if this information is accurate or not.

So what do you think? Would you like to see massive additions to GTA Online’s map instead of single-player DLC? Do you think this post is a total guess or is there some truth to the information? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
