'Gran Turismo Sport' Tokyo Expressway Track Gameplay VS. Real Life [VIDEO]

The people at Sony and Polyphony Digital held a special Gran Turismo Sport event in London last week and announced that the upcoming video game will include as many as 130 cars and 19 tracks that will have a total of 27 variations. Some of the tracks will be pretty familiar, including iconic Grand Prix circuits like Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps, Le Man's Circuit de la Sarthe and Germany's Nürburgring Nordschleife. But there will be brand-new tracks as well – notably the Tokyo Expressway.

Of course, all the latest racing sims use laser scanning techniques in order to replicate real world courses to inch-perfect detail. However, just how similar is the new Tokyo Expressway in Gran Turismo Sport to the real expressway in the city of Tokyo?

To find out, check out the two videos below. The first is a one-make Miata race on Gran Turismo Sport on the Tokyo Expressway via YouTuber MotoGamesTV. The second is a dash cam video of the real thing via YouTuber Spassfahrt55.

Finally, here are some images (disclaimer: I've never been to Japan and this comparison is not scientific) to compare the real video and the screenshots from Gran Turismo Sport.

Obviously, there are significant differences between the real Tokyo Expressway and the track in Gran Turismo Sport. Crucially, some of the off-ramps and exits have been blocked to allow racers to have a clearer indication of the track layout. On the other hand, some similarities that we can gather include the markings on the road surfaces, the highway signs overhead and the recreation of the dense cityscape backdrop.
