GOG Galaxy, the client for GOG, has introduced a major update that takes the PC gaming client out of beta and adds several new features.

Chief among those features is universal cloud saving, even for classic games that never supported them like Planescape: Torment or Dragon Age: Origins . While only a handful of these older games support cloud saving at this time, the GOG team plans to add more. That means saves will be synced between computers, allowing you to pick up your game on whatever PC you’re currently using.

Other features include an in-game overlay that lets you “chat with friends, check notifications or your achievement progress by pressing Shift+Tab in supported games,” as well as allow you to take screenshots in games that support the overlay.

As for the client customization features, the GOG team promises that the options will provide a “personalised experience and no feature-creep,” allowing you to turn off things like desktop notifications and achievements if you feel like it.

Notifications will be new to GOG Galaxy, allowing players to keep track of new messages, friend requests and invites.

Other improvements and fixes include ( via GOG ):

Bandwidth limit & schedule

  • GOG Galaxy downloads as fast as it can, but sometimes you might want to limit that. And you can schedule limits too.

New chat

  • Rewritten from scratch, it lets you stay connected with friends when playing a game or when using the Client.

Out of beta

  • GOG Galaxy is out of beta - only new preview features will be beta limited.

Screenshots

  • Press F12 in games supporting in-game overlay to capture that epic moment.

New hibernation mode

  • On top of making GOG Galaxy even faster, auto-hibernation drastically reduces CPU usage when idle or playing games - to save your precious resources.

New settings window

  • Control and customise Client’s features from the new settings window.

FPS counter

  • Overlay includes frames per second counter to measure how well does the game perform on your glorious PC.

Achievement rarity

  • Whenever you unlock an achievement you will see how common or unique it is among GOG community.

Desktop notifications

  • Receive new messages, game invites or friend request notifications when in-game or when GOG Galaxy is in the background.
