GDC 2020 Canceled Due Coronavirus Health Concerns Wccftech

A few weeks ago it was announced that GDC 2020 was postponed because of concerns over coronavirus. Many game developers pulled out from the event, which helped lead to its cancellation. However, it’s not going to be a complete loss. The Game Developer's Conference has announced that some of the planned presentations will take place via an online stream. There will be no physical gathering or audience, but a pre-recorded show will be created to be shown on the internet.

This might not be what most thought, but it’s better than nothing. The stream will take place from March 16 to March 20 on the official GDC Twitch channel. The streams will be eight hours long, taking place from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT.

However, not every presentation that was planned before will be streamed online. Right now, GDC doesn’t have a proper schedule for the stream, however you can visit the official page on March 13 to see the final timetable for what will air on Twitch.

"In addition, all streamed GDC 2020 talks will be available for free on GDC Vault and many will be posted to GDC's YouTube channel in the next few weeks and months," the announcement reads. “GDC 2020 speakers also have the opportunity to submit their talk even after the physical event would have occurred, so keep watching GDC Vault and Twitter as more free talks are added!”

It’s not all about developer streams, as the highly anticipated Independent Games Festival, and Game Developer's Choice awards will also take place online. The IGF is like the Oscars, but for small indie games. The awards are given to the best indie games of last year. The event will take place on March 18 at 8 p.m. EST. This news will definitely make some indie fans really happy.

So what do you think? Are you excited to check out GDC 2020 via Twitch? Which indie game did you like in 2019? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
