The ever-observant Watchers on the Wall peeped cast member Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, pegging the Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere date in July in an interview for the Irish Independent.

"I've been disappointing various people around the world because it was meant to come out in April. It's July now, I think,” Cunningham said. The April timeline mentioned by Cunningham hasn’t been in the cards for a while. Due to more winter scenes in Season 7, the Game of Thrones production team held off on filming for two months to better coincide with nasty weather and chase whatever ice is left on the warming Earth. That means Game of Thrones was never going to hit an April premiere date like in previous seasons. (It also means we face radical societal realignment and violence spawned by ecological collapse, but probably not before the Game of Thrones finale.)

But even compensating for what we already know, Cunningham’s new release date window represents a delay. Rather than landing in June, as the production timeline suggests, it looks like we’re looking at a premiere in the dead of summer: fire meets ice. Assuming Cunningham “I think” proves out.

All that and Season 7 of Game of Thrones will only be seven episodes. That’s three extra summer evenings you can spend outside catching fireflies or stay inside playing video games.
