Fortnite update 2.4.2 got players in the Valentine's Day spirit with the release of a new Crossbow weapon. We’ve already discussed everything in the complete patch notes, but we’re taking a deeper dive into every stat you need to know. Thanks to the Orcz wiki, linked below, for offering up the details.

The first thing players should know is the Crossbow comes in both Rare and Epic varieties. Here’s how the numbers stack up for the Rare variation.

FORTNITE RARE CROSSBOW STATS

  • Ranged weapon, three stars, level 20
  • DPS: 45
  • Damage: 75
  • Critical hit chance: 0 percent
  • Critical hit damage: 0 percent
  • Fire rate: 0.6
  • Magazine size: 5
  • Range: 1
  • Reload time: 2.6
  • Ammo cost: 1
  • Impact: 100

If you’re able to find an Epic Crossbow on the map, here are the upgrades you’ll get:

FORTNITE EPIC CROSSBOW STATS

  • Ranged weapon, four stars, level 20
  • DPS: 47.4
  • Damage: 79
  • Critical hit chance: 0 percent
  • Critical hit damage: 0 percent
  • Fire rate: 0.6
  • Magazine size: 5
  • Range: 1
  • Reload time: 2.5
  • Ammo cost: 1
  • Impact: 102.5

So, as you might expect, the difference between Fortnite’s Rare and Epic Crossbows are matters of slight buffs to damage, damage-per-second, reload time and overall impact. While there aren’t too many established strategies for the new weapon, the Crossbow’s strengths are its quiet ranged shots and unlimited ammo. If you’re looking to get the drop on an enemy but don’t want to bust in with the loud pop of a rifle, this is a solid solution to your problem. Especially if your foe isn’t using shields, a Crossbow is more than capable of delivering a solid death blow.

Devoid of any major gameplay features, the Crossbow is the key addition to Fortnite’s 2.4.2 update. Even though it’s released in the spirit of a lovely holiday, the Crossbow is just the beginning with regard to Fortnite’s Valentine’s Day plans. Starting Feb. 14, Save The World customers will be able to start a brand-new questline designed to get the heart pumping. That being said, that content will have little value to the swarms of free Battle Royale players.

Fortnite is in early access across PS4, Xbox One and PC.
