"Infantino Street.” That’s the name of the place Savitar slays Iris. It’s also a shout out to Carmine Infantino, co-creator of Barry Allen. It’s also the name of The Flash Season 3 episode 22, which airs on May 16. CW just released the synopsis and there’s a big surprise: Captain Cold is back.

But, how? This isn’t the first time we’ve asked that question this year. Captain Cold appeared on Legends Season 2 after he died sacrificing himself to the Oculus explosion to save the world in Season 1. Eobard Thawne went back in time and scooped him up (post-death) in 2014 Central City, asking him to bring his master thievery skills to Legion of Doom, a supervillain group with Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn. He gladly accepted Thawne’s offer to change steal the most precious item of his career: The Spear of Destiny.

Unfortunately for Leonard Snart, things didn’t end well. The Legends dropped him back in 2014 to the timeline before Legion of Doom recruited him, which means he will die once again. That’s why this synopsis seems so fishy. Even though everyone would love to see Wentworth Miller as much as possible, Captain Cold was supposed to be done for good. How is he going to return on The Flash?

It’s simple: because Barry is desperate as hell. The synopsis doesn’t say this explicitly, but in order to have Captain Cold in the present-day timeline, Barry would have to travel back in time and bring him back to 2017. When will this boy learn? Either that, or Barry just pays Cold a visit in the past? The first option is more likely.

Chances are this is a cold vs. cold situation. Killer Frost is on the loose. Who better to fight Killer Frost than Captain Cold? Snart also has tactical skills on par with Oliver Queen, so maybe he can help Barry outsmart Savitar and Killer Frost, who are now working together.

Snart is also a master manipulator, just like Savitar. He’s the definition of an anti-hero. He thinks without his emotions swaying his judgement. He’s logical. He’s blunt and to the point. He is always 10,000 steps ahead. These are all qualities Barry lacks. Maybe Snart can finally talk some sense into Barry? Starting with the fact that he needs to stop traveling back in time.

With only 24 hours left until Savitar murders Iris (Candice Patton), Barry (Grant Gustin) struggles to save the woman he loves and makes the choice to use any means necessary to do so. Realizing he has one option left to save her, The Flash turns to Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) for help.

The Flash Season 3 episode 20, “ I Know Who You Are,” will finally reveal Savitar’s identity, according to the promo. Team Flash will be on a mission to find Tracy Brand, a physicist who helped future Barry Allen trap Savitar in the speed force four years after the speedster killed Iris. Future Barry Allen gave present Barry Allen some future tech that may help Tracy invent the same technology years ahead of time.
