Might we be seeing the announcement of a release date for the Final Fantasy 7 remake? The odds for it have shot up with producer Yoshinori Kitase’s recent news update: voice recording for the main story is almost complete.
In a recent interview with Dengeki Playstation, Kitase stated (via Gematsu):
“A remake of Final Fantasy VII required substantial preparedness. The voice actors have almost finished voice recording of the main story. Fans may have the image of the Cloud from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, but since this is the ‘prime’ Cloud from before Advent Children, the performance may feel fresh.”
He also teased new developments about iconic series baddie Sephiroth, referencing the key art released earlier for the Final Fantasy 7 remake:
“I’ll leave the meaning of the Sephiroth that doesn’t exist in the original (the black wing?) to everyone’s imagination.”
Kitase did not specify whether he was referring to the first part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, which as we know will be delivered in an episodic format, or to the remake as a whole. Considering all the team has shared of the Final Fantasy 7 remake so far are only a piece of key art and two screenshots, it’s hard to imagine that Kitase is referring to the entire game, especially since director Tetsuya Nomura admitted that the menus seen in the screenshots were not finalized.
But… it’s not impossible. Here’s to hoping that with all the recent hubbub over the remake, Square Enix feels it will have something good and substantial to show soon enough. Even a release date announcement would bowl fans over at this point, reigniting the flames of excitement in the hearts of those whose hype may have cooled with the announcement of a more episodic, realtime-style Final Fantasy 7 remake.
