The release date for Far Cry 5 may have been leaked, but something sure seems off Ubisoft

A potential leak from GameStop may have given us some information on Far Cry 5. Before going too in-depth on this, please note that this is a massive, massive rumor.

As noted by SG Gaming Info, a recent GameStop listing of upcoming PS4 games included Far Cry 5. Even more surprising, there was a release date of Nov. 26, 2017. According to the screenshot of the listing, this information is as recent as Jan. 27.

Before going crazy, let’s dig into this a bit. To start, Nov. 26 is a Sunday. Games come out on Tuesdays, with the occasional Friday release. Big games, especially ones from Ubisoft, would not rock the boat by switching to a Sunday. This could be a placeholder date, but those typically are Dec. 31.

Far Cry 5 isn’t even an announced game yet. The last we’ve heard from the franchise was about a year ago when Far Cry Primal was released. It’s possible Ubisoft will announce Far Cry 5 in the spring or summer, with a fall release, but that seems like some quick turnaround for a new game.

As for what Ubisoft has said on the matter, Ubisoft VP of editorial, Tommy François, told IGN that it is possible there will not be new Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry games in 2017. The reason for this is to ensure all new games will have the most polish and quality as possible. “So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin's game, or a Far Cry [in 2017], f*** it,” François said.

Ultimately, we can only go on what has been reported by SG Gaming Info. This news should be treated like a rumor until Ubisoft makes some sort of official announcement.

So what do you think? Are you interested in a possible Far Cry 5? Would you like to see other diversions from the series like Primal or Blood Dragon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
