Board game giant Fantasy Flight has just announced a new Fallout board game, with Game Informer providing details about what the game is actually like. According to Game Informer, the board game version of Fallout is meant to emulate the video game as closely as possible.

The board in Fallout is broken up into hexagon pieces. Players pick from one of the game’s scenarios to dictate how the board is set up. The different configurations are all straight out of missions in the Fallout video games, with Game Informer saying a demo given was set in Fallout 4’s Commonwealth.

The goal of the game is to gain influence by gaining allies, finding new weapons, new gear and leveling up your character. Leveling up is an interesting twist on the SPECIAL system from the Fallout video games, with players having the opportunity to gain more points towards attributes like Strength and Perception or gaining powerful Perks. There are a set of five characters to pick from at the start of the game, with each character probably bringing his or her own strengths and weaknesses.

Game Informer says the biggest hook to the Fallout board game is the ability to make game-changing decisions. These decisions can alter how players approach a goal, with an example given regarding super mutants being held in a prison. If the player chooses to free the super mutants, this means there is a new danger lurking out in the Wasteland for everyone to discover.

Combat will use custom dice to decide who is doing damage to whom, and how much is being dealt out. Game Informer noted that these dice alluded to the trademark VATS system from the video games, meaning players will probably be able to pick where to aim at enemies during battle.

If you thought “Wait a minute, aren’t they already making a Fallout board game?” you’re partially right. There is a different Fallout game, called Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, being developed by Modiphius. Fallout: Wasteland Warfare sounds pretty similar in concept, so it will be interesting to see which Fallout board game comes out on top.

There has been no release date given for the Fantasy Flight Fallout game as of right now.

So what do you think? Are you excited to go explore the Wasteland with friends? Are you more interested in the Fantasy Flight or Modiphius Fallout game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
