Good news to all players of EA Sports F1 22. Cross-play is finally coming to the game later this August, one of the most highly requested features. Once cross-play integration is completed, it’s sure to improve matchmaking since friends can now come together no matter what platform they’re using.

Session hosts can invite friends on other platforms through the “Invite Friends” option in the game lobby. Players can review and accept requests even while racing. They can do this by simply pausing the game and going to the “Invites and Requests” option.

Those who want to compete against others from the same devices need not worry since cross-play can be disabled at any time.

Cross-Play Trials

Before the cross-play feature becomes fully integrated, there will be two separate trials to be done in Social Race and Two-Player Career modes. This first one starts today, August 5, until August 7. Meanwhile, the second is from August 12 to August 14.

Here’s how to join the cross-play trials:

  • Go to Game Options > Settings Menu > Enable cross-play.
    • On Xbox, the cross-play feature may need to be enabled in the account settings.
  • After enabling cross-play, select Social Race.
    • This should give you the ability to invite and join other sessions across all platforms.

Friends Hub

There’s also what’s known as the Friends Hub. Here, players can review any pending friend requests or session invites. They can also search and add friends including those they have recently raced against. The Friends Hub can be accessed from the Main Menu.

In a statement, F1 Senior Creative Director at Codemasters Lee Mather shared that cross-play brings all the players together and lets them determine who is the best driver. He added that this feature also results in creating better matchmaking opportunities.

Launched on July 1, F1 22 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game offers new and improved features like overhauled physics, handling, and tire models. There is even a feature known as Adaptive AI, which adjusts the level of difficulty of AI racers.
