Video game publisher EA has just announced they will be holding a new event, called EA Play, ahead of this year’s E3 expo in Los Angeles. EA Play will take place from June 12-14 in Los Angeles and a separate event will also take place in London.

EA Play will be occurring at Club Nokia @ LA Live in downtown Los Angeles. This event will feature hands-on game demos, competitions, live events, and more. The London event will only take place on June 12 at The Mermaid.

Tickets aren’t available for either event just yet, but you can sign up on the EA Play website for up to date notifications on all things EA Play. For the geographically-challenged this event will be livestreamed online with exclusive behind-the-scenes content and special online-only prizes.

EA has also confirmed that there will be a press conference during EA Play. This conference will take place on June 12 at 4 p.m. EST.

While it’s exciting to see EA hold their own event, it also raises many questions. The first big one is: Why? Seeing as how there is a press conference included at EA Play, and that the event takes place two days before the start of E3 2016, this probably means that EA doesn’t have a press conference at E3.

EA also may have less floor space at this year’s E3 than they would have liked. Hosting a separate event also gets everyone talking about EA games going into E3, letting the publisher start and guide the conversations throughout the show. Opening yourself up to the public also gets more eyes on your games compared to the competition especially during a typically slow news period in the days ahead of E3.

Whatever the reasons, EA fans and gamers alike should get ready for a whole week of insane game news starting on June 12.

So what do you think? Are you interested in seeing what EA has to show off this year? Do you hope as much as I do it’s heavily Mass Effect related? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
