When Valve finally announced the format for the 2023 DPC Season of Dota 2 , there were a lot of people in the community that were happy because one of the Majors is slated in South America. Tour 1 is set to conclude with Lima Major, the first Major to be held in the region.

However, there's a chance that Lima Major might be postponed, or worse, canceled. That's because various reports are showing that the Government of Peru has declared a state of emergency in Lima and three other regions. The proclamation follows weeks of protest against the country's President Dina Boluarte.

Now, the Lima Major is scheduled to begin on February 22, more than a month away. However, there is no assurance that problems happening in Lima are going to end by that time.

Given this situation, there are different actions that Valve can pursue. It can continue to the Major in Lima but have the competition purely online. The problem is it somewhat defeats the purpose of having the tournament in the region. A good alternative is to choose a different city in South America, like Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo in Brazil.

Of course, Valve could also decide to move it to a different region altogether but a lot of Dota 2 fans in and out of South America will surely react. For now, there's still no word from Valve or the organization tasked with Lima Major, which is 4D Esports.
