The Playoffs for the Dota 2 WePlay AniMajor have just started but we’re already getting interesting results. Not really about the tournament itself but more the impact. That’s because, after the first set of matches in the Playoffs, four new teams have managed to get direct invites for this year’s The International 10.

If you’re confused, don’t worry since we’ll explain it in a bit.

TI10 Direct Invites

After being canceled last year due to the pandemic, TI10 is finally coming this August. For this year, 18 teams are expected to compete. Of these, 12 are joining the tournament through direct invites. The other six are coming from the qualifiers of different regions.

To get direct invites, teams need to get a certain amount of DPC points. These points are awarded based on the team’s performance in a season and a corresponding Major. For 2021, there were two seasons and two corresponding Majors.

At the end of the Singapore Major, these teams immediately received a direct invite:

  • Evil Geniuses
  • Invictus Gaming
  • Team Secret
  • Virtus.pro

New Round of Invites

The WePlay AniMajor is well underway and eight direct invites would be filled by the end. Though, no long waiting is needed to get an update. The thing is, the first round of the Playoffs had four matches in the Upper Bracket. Getting a win gives a guaranteed 300 DPC points.

Now, three of those teams that won received the coveted direct invites and they are:

  • PSG.LGD
  • Quincy Crew
  • T1

This was confirmed, in a way, by T1 player Nuengnara "23savage" Teeramahanon who tweeted this:

Two main questions need to be answered. First, who will get the fourth invite? It’s none other than China’s Team Aster. The team managed to get enough points by getting second place in the Upper Division for Season 1 and the top spot in Season 2.

A Nigma Situation

The second question is, what happened to the fourth winner of the first set of matches? That was Team Nigma which moved to the Upper Bracket Round 2 by beating Virtus.pro. Despite the guaranteed 300 DPC points, this puts them at 12th place.

However, some of the teams ranked below Nigma are still in the tournament, which means they are also in the running for a shot at a TI10 direct invite. We’ll likely know Nigma’s final situation toward the end of the tournament.

What about you? Who do you think are getting the remaining direct invites?
