Don't Believe The 'GTA 6' Rumors

Rumors and “reports” have been swirling around regarding development on a GTA 6. Unfortunately, it seems like this is probably just a misunderstanding.

As YouTube user and known GTA expert MrBossFTW says in the above video, reports of GTA 6 have been greatly exaggerated. While it’s true Rockstar at one point held trademarks on GTA: Tokyo, GTA: Bogota, GTA: Sin City and GTA 6, all of those trademarks have been expired for at least seven years. If Rockstar was going to use one of those locations for a new game, you would think the trademark would have been renewed.

While it is possible some pre-production work has been started on GTA 6, we will not hear about anything for a few years at least. GTA 5 was in development since 2009, didn’t get announced until 2011, and wasn’t released until 2013. GTA 6 will likely follow a similar release schedule, with an announcement coming in a few years.

Another reason why this rumor is false stems from the fact that it claims a location hasn’t been selected for GTA 6 yet. Considering Rockstar makes each location as much, if not more, of a character than many of the protagonists, this seems doubtful. A location seems like it would be the first thing Rockstar would decide.

We know Rockstar doesn’t pump out games, the company takes its time with each release. Seeing as how development on GTA Online and the GTA 5 re-release for the current generation of consoles and PC has taken up a large amount of resources, work on GTA 6 has likely been pushed back even further. This does ensure that each release is the best game it could be, so take all the time you need Rockstar.

Don’t worry too much, though. All signs seem to point to a new Red Dead game coming that will act as a sequel to Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar is expected to announce something at this year’s E3, with publisher Take-Two claiming they will have a major presence at this year’s show.

So what do you think? Do you believe Rockstar is working on a GTA 6 already? Are you more excited about the potential new Red Dead game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
