Death Stranding dropped a new trailer during The Game Awards 2016, and it left us with more questions about the game than answers. Even actor Mads Mikkelsen, who spoke to Hideo Kojima about his vision for the game, seems to have no clue what’s going on.
During an interview with Birth.Movies.Death, Mikkelsen tried to explain Death Stranding without giving away spoilers. However, Mikkelsen admitted even he had trouble grasping what Kojima told him about his upcoming game:
It's very intricate. I mean, you know (Kojima). He's a very brilliant man. I mean... the stuff he told me? I only understood some of it.
(Laughs)
There was a lot of (mimes being baffled) "What?" I have to see it before I understand. Because with Death Stranding, he's creating something completely new.
In all fairness, it wouldn’t be a Kojima game if it didn’t have a few head-scratching moments. We’re still trying to figure out the concept behind Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain . So she’s like a plant and can only survive if she bathes in water, which explains her lack of clothing because video game logic?
At least we know Death Stranding will be 100 percent of Kojima’s vision and nothing less. Guillermo Del Toro and Norman Reedus both signing onto the project after Konami crushed their dreams of Silent Hills should be seen as a win for gamers. Del Toro was pretty adamant about staying away from game development after his terrible experience with Konami. He’s still pretty bitter about it.
“Konami cancelling SH after PT is one of the most moronic things I've ever witnessed,” Del Toro tweeted after the release of the second Death Stranding trailer.
