Growing up in the mid-1990’s, one of the games that was always coveted by PlayStation gamers was Crash Bandicoot. The game, which was visually different from many of the games that hit market prior, was one of those games that was playable for anyone and was legitimately fun. When the game was released in 1996, fans were hooked and Crash became part of video game lore.

At E3 2016, it was revealed that Crash would be making a comeback as a special level on Skylanders Imaginators. At Playstation Experience, developer Vicarious Visions released a trailer for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, a remastered version of the first three Crash Bandicoot games, Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped. While the game is looked at as just a remaster of those games, Dan Tanguay from Vicious Visions has a different take on Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.

“But we don’t consider this a remake,” said Tanguay, the game’s director. “We know how much you all love the original games, so we didn’t want to fully remake them. The N. Sane Trilogy is a remaster plus.”

Vicious Visions also released a few additions and feature to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy that fans will see when the game is released:

  • Rebuilt levels, based on the original geometry
  • Rebuilt characters, following the original designs
  • Rebuilt cinematics, inspired by the originals
  • Unified checkpointing & save game system. This includes manual and auto-saving. (Yes, the first game now has a proper save game system!)
  • Unified menu system. Here an example of the Pause menu for Crash Bandicoot:
  • Time Trials in all three games

Details are still a tad unknown about Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, but what we do know is that it is a Sony exclusive (sorry Xbox owners). Other than that more details are to be released in the coming months as the we get closer to the game’s release sometime in 2017. Stay with iDigitalTimes as we learn more about the remastered plus version of Crash Bandicoot over the next few months.

In the meantime, enjoy the first trailer for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy above.
