In release announcements that will certainly pique the interest of the online sandbox crowd, Blue Isle Games formally announced a proper launch date for Citadel: Forged with Fire on PC, as well as setting up a physical and digital launch for consoles.
The announcement was made on the game’s Steam community page, where Citadel: Forged with Fire is currently in Early Access since July of 2017. After two years, nearly a hundred patches’ worth of updates, and a ton of new content, the magic-based online sandbox RPG will be finally coming out of its Early Access state.
Citadel: Forged with Fire itself is a very interesting take on a once-flourishing and popular genre of survival games in an open sandbox map filled with other players. I like to think of it as Rust meets Harry Potter, with a lot of the game’s mechanics being built upon this system of spellcasting and the arcane arts. Check out a new trailer released for the game below.
The game starts you off as a lowly apprentice of the magic arts, setting off in the fantasy world of Ignus. Ultimately, your goal is whatever you please, including high ambitions of making a name for yourself by amassing power and notoriety through the use of magic, massive castles, and the taming of mighty beasts. Of course, you can forego all that and just try and be hostile to everyone you see like so many of the players that I always end up meeting in these types of games. Those are always good for a laugh or two.
Citadel: Forged with Fire separates itself from others in the genre by placing a very deep focus on magical combat, which translates to spells from waving wands and staves about. Despite this, melee users can still feel right at home as the game does feature magically imbued axes, swords, maces, hammers, and enchanted gauntlets. The game also allows for the construction of some large and mighty castles, which you can then populate with your group to form a House.
Citadel: Forged with Fire will be releasing digitally and physically for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 11. The PC version on Steam is now available through Early Access, although it will leave that state on October 11 as well.
