Capcom has affirmed its stance on generative AI, with the company saying no to having the technology present in its games.
However, it is not an absolute rejection of artificial intelligence as they said that in some aspects of their game development, they will use many new technologies in the future.
Capcom Says 'No' to Generative AI In Their Games
During the latest third-quarter earnings call of Capcom, the Japanese game development company told its investors that the world will not see any form of AI-generated content when playing their games.
According to ComicBook Gaming, Capcom assured its shareholders that the company will keep the games and its assets free from generative AI.
This applies to the many franchises under Capcom's belt, including the "Resident Evil," "Monster Hunter," "Street Fighter," "Devil May Cry," "Marvel vs. Capcom," and more.
"Our company will not be implementing any AI-generated assets into our video game content," said Capcom representatives.
The comments come after the AI fiasco that NVIDIA faced after previewing the DLSS 5 technology featuring "Resident Evil Requiem."
NVIDIA faced backlash over DLSS 5's generative AI influences, with critics saying that it does not upscale the picture but uses generative AI to enhance it instead.
Because of this, developers, including Capcom, felt compelled to defend their games and affirm their stance against generative AI.
Capcom Will Still Use AI in Development
However, there's a caveat to Capcom's latest statement as, while they will not use AI-generated assets in their video games, the company said that it will still use many of the new technologies in the AI space for its game development.
Capcom said that it will explore the use of this technology to "improve efficiency and productivity."
According to the company, they will explore "ways to use" artificial intelligence in graphics, sound, and programming.
