One of the best things shown during Summer Game Fest 2022 is The Callisto Protocol. The developer, Striking Distance Studios, revealed unfiltered gameplay footage of the game, and oh boy, is it good. You can watch the trailer below. I recommend that you do it till the end as there is a nice surprise.

What’s in the Trailer

The gameplay footage was captured on the next-gen hardware. We saw two doctors trying to hold a monster, and melee combat seems important in the gameplay. Players can also dodge incoming close-range attacks.

The game has a gravity weapon that you can use to bring monsters closer to you or throw them away. Environmental kills are also possible. We saw one monster being thrown into a fan. However, the player also has to be careful about it. From the trailer, it seems like they can also die from the surrounding machines.

Enemies’ limbs can be shot off by shooting at them, but it won’t kill them. An enemy whose bottom torso was destroyed could still attack the player. All in all, the developer is really emphasizing the horror element.

Similar to Dead Space

If the game reminds you of Dead Space, you're not alone. The Callisto Protocol is directed by Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space, so that’s why there are a lot of similarities.

Fans of the horror genre have more to look forward to. Dead Space Remake is currently in development for current-gen consoles and PC and will release in January 2023. You can also play The Last of Us Part 1, which is launching this September. It might not be a full horror title but there are many moments where it feels like one.

The Callisto Protocol launches on December 2 on all major platforms. You can pre-order the game on Steam right now.

So what do you think? Are you excited about The Callisto Protocol? Are you planning to pre-order the game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
