Call Of Duty: WWII is in open beta on Steam, and can be downloaded from the store page here. Its maps and modes are identical to this month’s PS4 and Xbox One Private Betas, but there are a few changes worth noting.

For example, as expected from a full PC release, there are more settings options unique to that version of the game. Namely, players will be able to adjust aspects like framerate, field of view and other advanced video settings. There’s also support for native resolutions up to 4K, remappable keys, G-Sync, ultra-wide monitors and more. The menus and loading screens are also slightly different.

With regard to actual content, the PC beta currently contains four competitive multiplayer maps spread across four modes. Pointe Du Hoc, Ardennes, Gibraltar and Aachen can be enjoyed in Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Domination and Kill Confirmed formats. As if that wasn’t enough, Operation Breakout is the premier demonstration of the new objective-based War mode. Throughout the weekend the level cap will raise to 35 with a Division level cap of four.

This suite of maps was chosen as a prime example of what the collaborative efforts of Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software have created, and also offers lots of variety for players. Maps like Pointe Du Hoc, for example, pay homage to the close-knit, chaotic combat style that first made the franchise popular well over a decade ago. On the more open end, Gibraltar and Aachen add a sense of verticality and scope that wasn’t possible on older hardware.

Just like all betas, the information gathered during this test will be used to ensure Call Of Duty: WWII is an enjoyable experience across PC and console platforms. In fact, the Aachen map has already been adjusted to offer more defined lines of sight and fewer glitches.

Call Of Duty: WWII Review - It’s Exactly The War You’d Expect
While it’s not a perfect game, Call Of Duty: WWII knows the expectations it has to meet and hits almost every single one of them fairly well.
  • Action-packed campaign
  • Traditional multiplayer at its best
  • A more welcoming Zombies mode
  • Predictable story
  • Small multiplayer maps
  • Post-launch server issues
