Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare was just released, but the name to its 2017 follow--up may have leaked in a recent SAG-AFTRA form published by the organization. Apparently Call Of Duty: Stronghold or Call Of Duty: Stronghold & Lethal Combat is a real thing.

The document, which lists a few dozen game projects not impacted by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA voice actors strike, clearly features Call Of Duty: Stronghold aka Call Of Duty: Stronghold & Lethal Combat as a current project underway at Activision. Those names are obviously new to us and seem likely to be tied to Sledgehammer Games’ assumed Call Of Duty title to be released next year. After all, it’s probably the only game in the pipeline that would need voice actors right now.

That being said, while the Call Of Duty franchise is often ribbed for its generic titles, we don’t necessarily think Stronghold or Stronghold & Lethal Combat will be the title’s final name. Unfinished projects are often given codenames for the sake of secrecy, much like Assassin's Creed Victory which eventually became Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. The nondescript title was likely provided to give actors a small clue of what they were working on.

It’s also worth noting that, beyond Call Of Duty: Ghosts, Activision doesn’t typically place just one word after the colon when naming Call Of Duty games. In that case, something like Stronghold would be an outlier.

As for what Sledgehammer might be working on, there are a few options. 2014’s Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare was pretty well received when it released, and the studio is also home to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as well. Considering the first game in that trilogy was just recently remastered, maybe it’s a sign that a fourth installment is in the works. An Advanced Warfare follow-up seems possible too. As with most years, some Call Of Duty fans hope to see a return to the series World War II roots as well. Stronghold and Stronghold & Lethal Combat could fit any of those scenarios.

Until we know more, Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare is brand new to store shelves. Its sales initially appear to be softer than most recent titles, but the game will likely maintain a strong audience with its appreciated campaign and promised season pass content.

Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
