The Ultimate Updates for the Terminal Cut versions of BloodRayne and BloodRayne 2 are here. It comes with, among many others, updates to the visuals, audio, and localization. There are of course the usual gameplay balances. Take note that the changes in these updates are in addition to the ones introduced by Terminal Cut editions.

BloodRayne is a third-person horror video game where players take on the role of a femme fatale half-vampire Rayne. She travels the world to stop whatever it is the Nazis are planning and battle against many supernatural threats. Along the way, she hopes to learn more about her vampire side.

Here are the changes included in the Ultimate Update:

  • (Steam) Trading Cards, badges, and emoticon support have all been added.
  • (GOG) Wallpapers in HD resolutions are available in the game extras folder
  • BloodRayne: Terminal Cut
    • Textures on enemy models restored to their original console version aesthetic.
    • Japanese voice-acting and subtitles added.
    • Additional rendering improvements to water and other textures.
    • Miscellaneous bugs fixed.
  • BloodRayne 2: Terminal Cut
    • Ephemera boss fight rebalanced.
    • Restoration of missing music and audio tracks.
    • Improved graphical fidelity for bonus materials.
    • Russian language localization improvements.
    • Miscellaneous bugs fixed.

While the improvements are indeed significant, this is expected to be the last such update for the two games.

In a post, Michael Devine of Ziggurat Interactive shared that when they released the Terminal Cut versions, it introduced new fans to Rayne’s adventures. He added that since then they haven’t stopped introducing improvements and are happy to reveal that this may be the best update yet.

BloodRayne and BloodRayne 2 were released in the early 2000s and re-released in 2020. The new improvements that came with the Terminal Cut include:

  • Support for higher display resolutions (up to 4K / 3840x2160).
  • Upscaled cinematic videos.
  • Support for modern gamepads (XInput).
  • Improved rendering with up to 4x anti-aliasing.
  • Support for higher texture resolutions allowing for use of original, uncompressed textures.
  • Improvements to effects such as reflections, water, fog, and shadows.

The Terminal Cut editions of BloodRayne and BloodRayne 2 are currently being offered on Steam at 40% off.
