It’s hard to find good local co-op titles these days, and as such every time there’s a new release that falls within the criteria, I try my best to cover it. Co-op is definitely highlighted by developer JoyMasher with the impending release of their pixel-art 2D side-scroller run and gun title Blazing Chrome.
Published by The Arcade Crew, Blazing Chrome will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on July 11. Check out a trailer for the game below, which highlights the ridiculousness of its run-and-gun levels.
Gameplay-wise, Blazing Chrome feels like Metal Slug turned up to a higher level. It also offers a bit more leeway when it comes to its dodging mechanics, as the characters can roll to avoid incoming attacks. Blazing Chrome also incorporates bullet hell mechanics, particularly with some of its boss battles.
Blazing Chrome is set in a world where machines have taken over ala Terminator, and the few surviving humans left are teetering on the brink of total extinction. In a suicide mission to change the fate of the human race, two individuals stand out and accept the challenge: Mavra, a kickass human resistance soldier, and Doyle, a groovy and deadly insurgent robot. You can choose to play as either character, or, for best results, take a trip back in time going back to the age of Metal Slug and duke it out against a wide variety of automatons in local co-op mode.
Blazing Chrome features five different apocalyptic environments, populated by hundreds of robot-enemies to blow to a thousand different pieces. Along the way, you will be granted access to a wide arsenal of weapons and other combat equipment, such as armor, hoverbikes and unconventional, yet extremely effective, weapons.
The game also features amazingly designed boss battles, plus lots more for minibosses, which should provide you with that old-school challenge you crave. To be honest, I’m sold on the amazing pixel art alone, and as a very big Metal Slug fan, I can’t wait to check this out.
Blazing Chrome will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on July 11.
