The Battlefield 1 beta release date is only a week away! On Aug. 31, gamers on Xbox One, PS4 and PC will have an opportunity to experience the new World War 1 shooter on the vast Sinai Desert map.

The Sinai map is inspired by the battles between Allied forces and the Ottoman Empire for control of the Suez Canal. The Sinai Desert is also one of the biggest Conquest levels in Battlefield 1, offering incredibly diverse gameplay that include horses, jeeps, heavy tanks, figher planes, as well as the terrifying "Bohemoth," an Armored Train that promises to turn the tide for any team that commandeers it.

DICE also announced that the Sinai Desert has another trick up its sleeve: the occasional sandstorm. Weather effects significantly impacted battles fought in WWI and dramatic sandstorms will recreate the terrifying conditions many soldiers endured.

"The map also offers different weather than many of the others, including the occasional sandstorm that wreaks havoc on visibility and the gameplay dynamics," read a post from the official Battlefield site. "Strong winds blowing up sand is bad news for snipers and planes alike, though skilled pilots may be able to take advantage of the chaos. Things like these sandstorms and the variety of locations makes sure you can have just as fun with any of the infantry classes as you can with vehicles, and create a great variation of intensity throughout the map."

DICE Design Director Lars Gustavsson also hinted that Sinai will not be the only map with major weather effects. Another multiplayer map will feature the use of fog to create a similar challenge as sandstorms.

“It’s amazing, you know,” Gustavsson revealed while speaking with Stevivor. “It suddenly goes totally silent in the heat of the battle when the fog kicks in [on this map],” he continued. “People can’t see much around them, and you notice the sudden silence in the office.

“You see shadows lurking and you don’t know if it’s friend or foe. I think it brings very different type of gameplay to the battlefield.”

Stay tuned as well expect to learn more about the Sinai Desert map in the days ahead. The Battlefield 1 Beta arrives Aug. 31!
