Assassin’s Creed Origins has shaped up to be a great game, but there’s no denying it has more than a few bugs that need squashing across all platforms. In fact, the game has crashed multiple times for our reviewer during her play sessions on PS4. With these problems in mind, Ubisoft has created a support thread detailing the game’s most glaring issues with tips for how to fix them.

Here’s a recap of the bugs and their various workarounds:

Cross-Platform Bugs

  • Crashes when opening marked pictures from the map: Don’t mark map photos for now. It will be fixed in the next update.
  • Objectives disappear in main quest called “The Hyena”: It’s triggered by exiting to the title screen or turning off the console during cinematics. Investigating the clues will unlock them. It will be fully fixed in the next update.
  • Master Seer Ability Increases Bayek’s Fire Damage: It will be addressed in a future update.

Xbox One Bugs

  • Getting stuck on the table in the Krocodilopolis arena lobby: Reload your save. A fix is currently under investigation.
  • Getting stuck after using Overpower on Diovicos: It’s triggered when using Overpower to kill Diovicos and will be addressed in a future update.
  • An NPC named Thutmose does not load properly: It typically happens during the side quest called “Blood In The Water.” Reload the quest objectives from the quest menu to fix interaction. It will be fully addressed in a future update.
  • Hippodrome not accessible: Hippodrome does not work after leaving and coming back to it. Reboot the console to fix the issue, but it will be addressed in a future update.
  • Arena Leaderboards not updating: Typically caused by an Xbox Live connection loss. Reboot the game to fix it. A full fix is under investigation.
  • Game title appears in Russian: Game title shows as Russian during install. The issue is corrected once the process finishes and will be corrected in future pressings of the disc.

PC Bugs

  • Enabling HBCC Kills Performance: This issue is typically seen when using AMD cards. Disable HBCC until AMD updates its driver.
  • NPCs Not Fully Loading: This often happens on low-end PCs and can be helped by killing background processes. It will, however, be addressed in a future update.
  • Crashes on 32-core PCs: Hit Windows key+R and type “msconfig.” From the Boot tab, click “Advanced Options.” Check the box that says “number of processors” and fill it with a number below 32. Click OK, Apply and reboot. When finished playing, set the number back to 32. Those who don’t want to try that process can wait for the game’s next update.

While the bugs of Assassin's Creed Origins aren’t quite as infamous as the ones that plagued Unity back in 2014, several major outlets were bothered enough by them to mention them in reviews. IGN’s Alanah Pearce, for example, called out Bayek getting stuck on certain surfaces. Over at GameSpot, Alessandro Fillari touched on framerate dips and graphical issues that “disrupted the flow” of his experience. These flaws are very real, but Ubisoft seems committed to ironing them out.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
