During a recent financial call, Activision Blizzard announced that the company will be releasing several remasters and reimagined experiences in 2020. Although most of the call went into discussing the company's financial performance in Q4 2019, the publisher took the time to speak about what it has planned for the year ahead.
Activision Blizzard CFO Dennis Durkin mentioned on the call that fans will see new IPs and new games like a new Call of Duty for 2020. Additionally, Activision “will continue to tap into our portfolio of beloved IP to bring several remastered and reimagined experiences to our players in 2020”.
Given the large success that Modern Warfare has received, it is not surprising to see Activision take the same route for other franchises. Despite having a tough time with Warcraft 3: Reforged, the company has had great success remastering Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and of course, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot.
Although we now know that Activision has plans to remaster and reimagine older, successful titles, Durkin has stated that the company will announce these games when they are closer to launch.
Currently, Activision has many games sitting under a hidden shelf that most fans are anticipating. Players would be happy to see Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Diablo 2 receiving similar reimagination or remaster treatment. The company has also mentioned that their mobile developer, King, is working on some promising titles, and one of them could actually turn out to be a leaked Crash Bandicoot endless runner.
With new consoles releasing during the holidays and so many remasters planned by developers, we think 2020 is going to be a solid year for gaming.
