Publisher Merge Games and developer Still Running have just unveiled the announcement trailer for their upcoming “horrorpunk action RPG filled with Lovecraftian horrors and Cronenbergian gore”. Titled Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, it is expected to launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam before the end of 2020.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes is set in the hostile and dangerous realm of Mornia. Players assume the role of “the last Striver of Dibrom”. The duty that is attached to this title, and one that you’ve been training your entire life for, is to defeat the titular Seven Acolytes and free the kingdom from their reign of terror. The Acolytes are basically flesh vessels for the Gahars. Slaying the Acolytes will mean that the Gahars will lose their bodies and their powers.

As early as now, Morbid: The Seven Acolytes is already getting compared to the Souls games due to its eerie and dark vibe that is in no way downplayed by its pixel-styled visuals. Its gameplay mostly revolves around exploration in a diverse number of environments, battling eldritch-like horrors, and managing your playstyle and approach using the game’s RPG mechanics. The game offers a variety of weapons from melee (swords, axes, maces, spears, etc.) to long-range options (pistols, shotguns, rifles). As also seen in the trailer, numerous skills, perks, and blessings can also be used to improve your chosen approach. Morbid also has a needs management system wherein you must carefully monitor your Health, Stamina, and Sanity bar as you progress through the world of Mornia. We’ve also gotten a preview of what the game will sound like with its “epic fully-orchestrated soundtrack comprising of 18 tracks” which do nothing but help the game fully develop and embrace its dark and gothic vibe.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes will be launching for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo eShop, and PC via Steam in late 2020. Aside from Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, Merge Games has also recently announced an upcoming third-person cyberpunk themed shooter developed by Antab Studio. Titled Foreclosed, it is expected to launch in Q2 of 2021.
