It’s been a busy week for 2K as two patches were released for NBA 2K17 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The big news coming from the patch releases seemed to only be the addition of All-Star tournament capability for players on both consoles. A deeper look shows there is definitely more to these patches.

The first major addition to NBA 2K17 are updated All-Star jerseys, rosters and the official court that will be used for All-Star weekend in New Orleans next weekend. This was something that everyone was waiting for as All-Star weekend is when NBA 2K players will play with these teams the most. For 2K to incorporate this element into the game right around the All-Star break was a good move.

One of the big additions to NBA 2K17 and something that has been a social media lightning rod has been Park After Dark. After a lackluster introduction with Snoop Dogg in Nov., Park After Dark return on Dec. 30. The reaction to the second edition was lukewarm; many stated it was better than its debut, but it still lagged and some players were still unable to play for extended periods of time. In the latest NBA 2K17 updates, 2K “addressed” the hang that occurs for players when they leave and re-enter Park After Dark. This move signifies that another Park After Dark event is coming soon and hopefully it continues to improve.

Something that has been noticed by some has been the extended period of time that lapses between the main logo screen and the game menu. It varies among players, but most are stuck looking at Paul George for a lot longer than they should have to. In Patch 1.08, 2K fixed that issue and reports have 2K increasing the amount of space the game takes up in order to accommodate that fix. The bigger question is this: where did this glitch come from? It just popped up and afflicted users everywhere.

It is unprecedented for a game to receive two patches in the same week. NBA 2K17 needed patching due to nagging issues that still hampered the game even to this point after release. There will be more to come from 2K in regards to patches for the NBA 2K17 but the little things seem to be fixed after nine patches...maybe.
